My Name Is: The Stories of Island Boys Who Went to War

The next installment of Amanda Crocker’s My Name Is series will take place on April 9, marking the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. This presentation will share the stories of Clarence Bates, Stephen Suthern, and Terence Robicheau—three Island men who went to war, and the lives they left behind.

Through a full slideshow of more than 35 images, including original photographs and wartime documents, Crocker brings these histories to life in a way that is both personal and deeply rooted in our community.

The presentation begins at 6 p.m. on April 9 and will also serve as the launch of Crocker’s new book, My Name Is: The Stories of Island Boys As They Go to War. The book brings together all three presentations in the series and will be available that evening for $20 ($25 afterward). All proceeds will be donated to the poppy fund.

The seven Island men featured in the book are Stephen Ernest Shortliffe, Sydney Weldon Thurber, Eugene Waldo Outhouse, Albert Lester Welch, Clarence Bates, Stephen Patton Suthern, and Terence Robicheau.

Whether you’re interested in local history, wartime stories, or simply remembering those who served, this is an evening worth attending.
